Booklet: Rights of Children in Care

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), SOS Children's Villages International and the Council of Europe have published a youth-friendly version exploring the rights of children in alternative care. The publication is based on the UNCRC, the Quality4Children Standards and the Recommendations of the Council of Europe on the rights of children living in residential institutions (2005).

Renaldas, Raluca and Peter are three fictive young characters who tell their stories as well as the stories of other children and young people in out-of-home care. The booklet provides general information about alternative care and tips for children and young people; it also includes a glossary and a list of useful internet links.

The brochure was developed together by adults and young people with care experience and should help children and young people in care to learn about their rights, how to exercise them and how to take on an active role in their own care process.

In case you are interested to announce the brochure through your organisation’s website, or other printed media, or if you just need additional information, please contact Ms. Raluca Verweijen-Slamnescu, at raluca.verweijen-slamnescu@sos-kd.org or at +43/131023 9813
